The mystery of the disappearance of Afang Palace

The site of Afang Palace is located in the area of Afang Village, 15 kilometers west of Xi an, Shaanxi Province. It is a famous building in Chinese history. In middle school textbooks, we have studied Afanggong Fu , which says Six kings are complete, four seas are one. Shushan Wu, Afang out. Overwhelming more than three hundred miles, isolation of the sun, the description of Afanggong Magnificent and magnificent, but how the Afang Palace disappeared has always been a mystery in history. The most legendary version is burnt. The claim that Xiang Yu burned the Afang Palace has been circulating for about 2000, but recently archaeologists have found only a few red burned earth relics in the exploration area of the 200,000 square meters of the front palace site of the Afang Palace. Experts believe that this indicates that the historical record of Xiang Yu s burning of Afang Palace is inaccurate.

According to experts, from the current excavation situation, archeologists have not found traces of carbon ash, so experts initially determined that the Afang Palace was not destroyed by fire. At the same time, archaeologists have not found a piece of tile in the Qin Dynasty , that is, the tile or fragment of tile at the time. Therefore, experts speculate that the house of Qin Dynasty may have been damaged without completion. As for when it was damaged, it was What kind of destruction is still a mystery. As the excavation proceeds, this ancient mystery may be revealed.

The archaeological excavation of the Ruafang Palace site was jointly organized by the Archaeological Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Xi an Cultural Relics and Archaeological Institute. Archaeologists first carried out archaeological exploration from the ruins of the front palace of the Afang Palace , and the exploration area has reached 200,000 square meters. According to experts, the excavation basically cleared the basic scope of the front hall of the Afang Palace site. From the traces of the rammed earth unearthed from the site, the experts found that the base site of the front hall is at least 540,000 square meters, which is by far the largest palace site in the world.

Qin Afang Palace is the government center planned for the Qin Dynasty. The palace complex is huge. It is located 13 kilometers west of Xi an, Shaanxi Province, and faces the Qin Capital Xianyang across the Wei River. During the Western Han Dynasty, the ruins of the Afang Palace were placed in the area of Shanglinyuan for palace building. Because of its heavy palace walls on the east, north and west sides, it is called Acheng in history. Due to its high terrain, the Afang Palace was mostly a garrison. After the Song Dynasty, it was gradually turned into a farmland. In 1961, the Afang Palace site was announced by China as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

Sun Fuxi, deputy director of the Xi an Cultural Relics and Gardens Bureau and deputy leader of the Qin Afang Palace archeological team, said: In one year, archeologists surveyed more than 200,000 square meters of land and excavated 1,000 square meters. A few pieces . If it is a large area of fire for three months? This is contained in historical data, the red earth should be everywhere. In addition to braised soil, there should also be a large amount of plant ash.

Sun Fuxi thinks that Xiang Yu is burning Qin Xianyang Palace. This was confirmed by subsequent archaeological excavations, and large areas of braised earth relics were found at the Qin Xianyang Palace site. The reason why the Afang Palace was not burned is that there are more than 60 rammed earth bases within 14 square kilometers of the Afang Palace. Some places have been completed and some places have not been completed, including whether the front hall is completed.
